2017 Student Poster & Video Competition

OERA is pleased to announce that the Student Poster & Video Competition of the Marine Renewables Canada Conference on November 8-9, 2017 at The Westin Ottawa in Ottawa, Ontario is now open.  This call for research poster & video presentations is open to students conducting studies in Marine Renewable Energy.  The Conference will focus on the theme “A time to lead: Advancing Canada’s Marine Renewable Energy Industry“.  The audience for the Conference is expected to be a mix of academic, government and industry energy researchers. Posters and videos will be on display for all Conference delegates.

The Student Poster & Video Competition is open to students conducting studies in marine renewable energy (for example, tidal, wave & river current energy) and environment (for example strategic environmental assessments, environmental effects monitoring, fish & marine mammals, resource characterization, regulatory & best practices, technology, etc).  A $500 prize will be awarded to both the best student poster and student video at the conference.

Note: Students do not need to attend the conference in person to participate in the competition. Students who are participating in person will have their registration fees waived.

Student Research Posters

All research posters will be on display and will be reviewed by a panel of judges and included in the competition.

Please submit an abstract of your research poster by Friday, October 13, 2017 using the following link:  https://oera.sharefile.com/r-ra125af2ca8a427d8 

The poster competition is limited to 20 students.  Your abstract will be reviewed by a panel of judges and you will be advised if the poster is approved for the poster presentation.  Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words, and should include a title, your name, academic affiliation, research advisor and a brief overview of your research.  You are welcome to submit a tweet of 140 characters to accompany your abstract.  You will be notified by Friday, October 20th, 2017 if your poster has been approved.

Student Research Videos

Students, this year you have the opportunity to develop a short, two-minute video about your energy related research.  These videos will help profile your ‘research ideas’, set you apart from your peers and quality you for a chance to win a $500 cash prize.  You are welcome to submit a tweet of 140 characters to accompany your video submission.

Submitting your video is easy.

How to enter:

  • All contestants must upload their video to YouTube
  • Create an account on YouTube
  • Choose a well-lit space to record your video, preferably against a plain background
  • Briefly describe your research, explaining how it will shape the future of energy in Canada and beyond
  • After you have filmed your research, upload your video to your YouTube page
  • Set your video privacy to ‘Unlisted’ and disable comments
  • Email the YouTube link to Nalani Perry, OERA

Please submit your video of your research poster by Wednesday, October 25th, 2017 at 5:00 pm ADTPlease email  your submission to Nalani Perry.
