Offshore Energy Research

Offshore Energy Research

OERA is dedicated to fostering offshore energy research to enhance petroleum exploration and development of Nova Scotia’s offshore. Our objective is to encourage and fund research work that builds on the geoscience knowledge about Nova Scotia’s offshore oil and gas potential as well as research that reduces the technical and engineering barriers to the development of discovered reserves.

PFA and Geoscience Data Package

In 2008, the Nova Scotia Department of Energy commissioned OERA to direct a Play Fairway Analysis (PFA) and Geoscience Data Package Program in the amount of $15 million with the goal of stimulating renewed offshore petroleum exploration activity.

In 2011, the Nova Scotia Department of Energy provided additional funds to OERA to build on the success of the recent PFA. The project will further enhance the PFA and could provide further information from the previous study. The OERA Geoscience Research Advisory Committee and Program Management Committee are currently reviewing research priorities to evergreen the PFA.
